Last week in my Chinese Arts Class, we started carving out Chinese seals (图章). It took me about 2-3 hours to completely carve it.
In the Chinese culture, Seals are used to to in a way, "copyright" who painted who's work. After an artist is finish with their painting, they will use their seal to stamp (印) on to a corner which then completes the painting. Many people will write their names, a description of the painting, a Chinese poem, or Chinese idiom using ink (墨) which refers to the painting to give you an idea of what you're supposed to envision.
